cam timing specs for ROW 79SC??
 

A couple questions, Just wondering when i time my cams what are the timing specs for my engine? The engine is a ROW 79SC.

Also i got a hold of the previous owner and he gave me some interesting info on the car. Apparently in the mid 80's he had his mechanic swap the pistons and cylinder out for some ones that came out of a wrecked carrera, so i guess i have 3.2 P&C's? He used in the email "carrera" so I'm guessing he means 3.2 carrera. I should ask him to disclose more info on the car he got them from.

When i took my engine out a few months ago (before i contacted the PO) i was baffled to find 11 finned Mahle cylinders. I was expecting to find the stock 10 finned alusil cylinders. I was very exited to find i had possible nikasil's.

So my second question is if i do have in fact Mahle nikasil 3.2 P&C's, will my cam timing need to change due to the different P&C's?

It would be difficult to have put in 3.2 pistons. The rods are wrong unless he put in the 3.2 crank as well. The wrist pins are a different size and in a different location than the 3.0 wrist pins. Either way your cam timing should be the same. ROW 79 SC timing is .9-1.2mm at overlap. I suggest using the retarded end (1.2mm) for best performance. Most of our racers use 1.2-1.3mm with the same port size and cams you have.

Thanks Andy, I figured there would be some sort of problem with Just "putting in" 3.2 P&C's. I will write him back and hopefully get more info, maybe they came from a later SC with nikies.

There was a carrera 3.0 ROW model. Maybe the P&Cs he put in came from that model...

Yes i was thinking maybe it could have been a 77 carrera 3.0, we'll see. I sent him an email. :)
