Plastic or Mag?
I have found myself with the option of choosing either mag or plastic stacks (both are currently 32mm) to be bored to 38mm for my new motor. Which would you choose and why?

Either way is fine but I would save the mags for a big motor because you can port them quite a bit larger than the plastics. What displacement are you doing again?

Hi Aaron,
2.3L, 8000 RPM motor. Pretty much an early ST clone.

Nice! I have to look at my notes but I done 38/46 with plastic stacks and 42/52 with the mags. The plastics are limited by the integral air horns. I may have taken the plastics out to 48 on the tops....I'll get back to you on them.
On a side note; What P/C did you go with?

Henry sourced the 85mm JEs in bored out Birals, but I have decided to go with Nickies direct from Charles at LN since. I decided to go no compromises.

Ah, I see. Thats a motor I can get excited about.
As for the choice in stacks I would choose the mags just for the convienence of air filter choices. I have not come up with an elegant solution for the plastics.

Aaron, nice avatar. (I'm sure I've said this before)
I would go with mag as well ... that way you don't need to run an air cleaner and can just run the velocity stacks with no air cleaner troughs. Looks the part and definitely SOUNDS!!!!! the part. |
