Cam Bar Tool question

Am rebuilding a 1986 930. I haven't used cam bar before to remove the cam nut. My other car had the 46mm nut-this has the 19mm nut. Since the sprocket holes are all spaced differently, will the cam bar only fit on the sprocket in one orientation, or will it fit onto any three holes?

I just removed mine, and I either got lucky or it will fit in any three holes.

. . . and if you use a pneumatic impact gun you don't need to use the cam bar/sprocket holder for removal of the 19mms - the impact spins them right off with no effort or problems!

Ronnie don't you still need the tool to tighten them back?

The late style pinned cam sprocket counterholding tool fits any of the holes on the cam sprocket.

If you are going to use new chains this is fast and fine... else use your hands and the tool to prevent any chain damage.

regardless... you need the tool to get it all back together as stated by Peppy.

I just removed my right side cam yesterday, and the cam tool would not fit in some of the holes. I did not spend a lot of time looking at why, but it fit if I rotated the tool 180 degrees.
I think that the washer behind the 19mm bolt or the sprocket behind the pulley blocks the holes a bit.

The washer does block the holes. This is to keep the pin in the hole of choice. I suspect, if you could rotate it 180 deg and it fit you had the luck of trying to get one of the tool's pins into the hole where the little timing pin resides... Obviously, if the pin is there the tool can not be there as well. 180 deg rotation gets you an open spot on the tool.

Just a guess.

Best regards,

Michael
