Alot of work but worth it.
Well the old girl is all but complete, twin turbo 3.0L everything rebuilt with top parts. Upgraded brakes, all suspension componnents, gear shift and coupling bushes etc, maulti spark ignition, new dizzy cap, leads rotor, high energy coil.
Have installed an electric turbo werks scavange pump for the turbo's, new stubby stainless headers all wrapped for heat control down low and twin PWR intercoolers for uptop. Blow through carb and custom built intake and plenum chamber aswell as fuel reg and all new lines. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208007764.jpg |
whoa very interesting. let us know how it runs
|
we need way more on this build... that must be a custom, no? The factory never made a twin turbo 3.0L right? What kind of boost will you run? What compression and piston domes are you using? Any special cylinder rings and how many cylinder rings?
WOW!!! We need tons of pictures of the build in process, can you post them? Bob |
Shame on you! A quick little description and only ONE picture!@!@#$$#!!!
We need more details and many more pics!! ;) ;) ;) Best regards, Michael |
Is that a 4 barrel carb I see?
|
draw through demon carb.. nice idea on cis runners. I bet it works well for turbo applications.

More info.
Barry Grant 575 blow through, 9:1 comp ratio, 6 lbs boost with max of 8 lbs
to keep off boost performance. Each 3 lbs of boost is worth 1 comp point so will be up around 11-12:1 comp ratio, with 100 octane fuel should have no probs. Daily driver and some track days in mind should be bags of fun. Cheeper and simpler than dated and worn CIS ( which I still have) was an 81 SC so very hard to come by turbo intake and CIS from genuine 930. Make my own GT2 Ha Ha.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208079328.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208079383.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208079437.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208079496.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208079681.jpg sorry for poor quaility of some pics. |
Very impressive and creative work. Could you tell us more about your carb choice? Has it been done before? I am thinking going that route when my CIS dies, but without the turbo(s). Webers or PMOs are ridiculously expensive...

it should be fine. infact now I am rethinking my choices for fuel |
I also notice in your last pic that you have sprayed your entire motor with grey metallic paint. What paint is that? Does it hold well, how about heat dissipation? I have never seen it done before on a P-car motor, but it sure looks fantastic.

The 4 barrel carb is a much cheeper and very reliable option, I sent all my engine specs and intended use to Barry Grant and the 575BT jetted to suit was recommended. I have built cars for drag racing and road use ( V8s mostly) and have found these carbs easy and infinitly tunable. As for the paint on the engine, I hot tanked all components then applied the self primming alloy heat resistant paint as the alloy dulls from age but its not wise to acid bath them I have found it ok on motorcycle engines Ive done. The paint is only a few microns thick and smooth so as to aid air flow for heat transfer. I have seen an off road buggy with a carb and naturally aspirated subaru engine and it worked fine, after all an engine is just an air pump.

It just occurred to me...can an engine be anodised?
An aluminum case of course. It would be kind of cool to have a completely black engine case....or perhaps that iridescent blue! Bob |
Interesting project indeed!!
While looking at this images, I notice something that may just be an optical confusion. Is this a gap to the inside of your intake manifold? In other words, a rather large intake leak? http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...079383copy.jpg |
Where did the center portion of the intake come from?
Thanks, neilca |
cool build!
what turbos are they? any hp & tq numbers yet? |
The black strip you can see is the spacer gasket, I had the intake chamber made by Alufab in Mackay useing the old plastic lower half as a template to get the pipe positions correct but left out the extended rear section. The turbos are K16s from a 2002 996.

More pics and info.
Ive had to relocate the coil for clearance for the inter-coolers. Just installed turbo tie rods and have half plumbed the induction system. Before I pulled her off the road she made 246 RWHP on the dyno. Some other jobs Ive done since are, rebuilt starter, major rewire and tidy ( lot less with old CIS system removed sensors etc) new heavy duty battery leads fine copper 70mm2,
large calcium battery, all new wheel bearings, suspension rubbers and bushes, made a strut brace. All up so far build cost ( doing all work myself and sourcing parts from local, abroad ebay and of course Pelican parts) $11,000 AUD.Fitted RSR door trims and removed old parcel shelf, tinted windows for our hot climate, coverd all fuel and oil lines with burst and flame shielding. Have made both fan block-outs so all the air gets to do the engine cooling, made a catch can breather set up for the oil tank and plumbed the engine to the tank. Installed retractable lap sash belts for the rear.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208686271.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208686586.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208686666.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208686815.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208686966.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208687887.jpg |

Missed a pic, sorry for the poor quality two different cameras.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1208688451.jpg

WoW! Nice!
Can you show more detail of the turbos and exhaust system? I have a set of those shorty headers that replace the stock thermol reactors as well and mocked them up on the Evil Engine as seen on the thread listed in my signature line. Turbo placement and plumbing are an issue. |
Exhaust system
Its a bit of trouble plumbing up 2 turbos the same, but this is what it looks like as rear mount I did.
Had my first drive today, WoW! she is making boost from about 1900-2000 RPM and she pulls like a demon, now for fine fuel system tunning.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209196798.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209196819.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209196843.jpg |
