Noob: Are Weltmeister 2pce oil return tubes a good upgrade?

Hi

I have looked at replacing the oil return tubes on my 2.7 for a while now and have stumbled upon a new set of Weltmeister two piece items for sale locally.

Has anyone used these? and are they a good upgrade?

Cheers!!

They are your only real option to replace an oil return tube unless you want to do the whole job correctly by pulling the engine and removing the head.

make sure the O rings are in good shape in the center and on the ends... or get new O ring set.. they will work great. Careful to lube the O rings when installing to avoid tearing them up

They are not an "upgrade". They are useful if your oil return tubes are leaking and you don't want to pull the engine apart.

Thank you for the information everyone!

I need to do a rebuild as I have a broken intake rocker and a large amount of debris in the case. Fingers crossed it's not to bad.......

So I am getting parts together ready for that and this is what led me to the above question. If it is not an upgrade then I will source standard parts.

If you are doing a rebuild, you definitely don`t need them.

if you forget to put the tubes in at the right time you will need them

They are a downgrade in my mind, as they introduce four new places for a 911 engine to leak. If you're tearing down the top end you don't need them anyway.

A broken rocker and a large amount of debris in the case usually = teardown. Can you post a pic of the debris?

They should only be considered interim fixes for leaking oil return tubes. As long as you are going to have the cam towers off the engine buy 4 new oil return tubes and intall them correctly. The new cad plated tubes look so good on the bottom of the engine.

I think the factory/OEM collapsible tubes are better than the Weltmeister aluminum tubes. Reason being is the OEM two piece tubes are just that- two individual pieces. The Weltmeister tubes are two piece, with the ends being what I believe I recall pressed on ends which house the o-rings. Point being, the ends on the Weltmeister tubes are prone to leaking/weeping at these end joints. The factory two piece tubes are simply stamped steel w/out these additional leak points. Plus I think the factory tubes are easier to get replacement inner o-rings.
