Engine Serial Number

I have Waynes book. If I am reading it correctly the serial number 6301783 is an ROW engine?

Thanks for any help in this matter.

James

From the porsche 911 Red Book, that engine fall in the range listed bellow, unfortunately no mention of the location, NA or ROW:

1970, 911S

Engine Ser #; 6300001-6302480 (911/02)

Coupe Chassis Ser #; 9110300001-9110301744

Targa Chassis Ser #; 9110310001-9110300729

But, since there is nothing in the remark colunm in Waynes book as opposse to "USA" and the HP is 180, sound like you got a ROW

Thanks for the information. I cant find any information on the benefits of such a case. I know the engine was higher compression, but that is about it. I am looking at the 3.0 engines from a cost effective standpoint. The 3.2 engine is a fair bit more expensive, as are the parts for a 3.5 increase.

Do you have any thoughts about the 3.0 vs 3.2 cases?

This is definitely a 1980 SC ROW engine # 930/09 as per page 202 of Wayne's book and the chart posted above by Glen

Sorry JJ 911/02 is a 1970 engine #

Enjoy that's a bad a$$ stock motor to start a build with @ 188hp/265tq!

After looking at the table from Glen posting, I found, in the Red book the same engine number not only as a 911/02 is a 1970 engine # but also in A program (Aug79-Jul80) program for 6300001-on (930/09).

That same engine number shows in Waynes book on pages 202 (1980, 911SC 930/09) as well as on page 201 (1970, 911S-C 911/02).

So unless someone got an explanation for the same engine number showing in 1970 as well as in 1980, we can blame this to another merkwürdig German book keeping...

I noticed that as well. I think the casting numbers are different.

Do we know what engine "Type" this motor is? That would certainly nail down the year. For example, 930/16 or 930/04 etc., etc..

For the original poster, please take a look at the engine type numbers that are stamped on the engine case just to the right of your fan housing. You should see some number such as 930/XX stamped on the case.

I know...very confusing at times. Hope this helps.
