Idea, dumb or not

Since I don't own a portable computer, nor intend to buy one, I was wondering if a portable DVD Player would make a welcome tool during my overhaul. I am taking a ton of pictures and was thinking it could make playback during assembly a lot easier than running off to the home PC to see how something is assembled. I haven't looked yet, but I presume you can step through pictures one at a time on one of these devices. Dumb or not?

Photo quality of DVD frame capture leaves much to be desired. However, many digital cameras have a feature where you can output the pictures to a television. I have a Nikon D50 (no longer made, get the D40) that offers this capability. In any event, you would have to capture photos, burn to DVD and then review-- or you could get one of the Sony direct-to-dvd camcorders and review on that, but see above limitations-- and those have tiny screens, not much bigger than a good digital camera.

How about a digital camera with an SD card and an LCD photo frame? These can be had inexpensively-- you shoot your pictures and then put the card in the frame and it will display the pictures. Also handy for slideshows of the rebuild when you have your buddies over to recap and drink beer "There I was, under sniper fire, rotating the cam with all my strength until the dial indicator just read 3,8mm. . . "
