901 differential pin

Does any one know what holds the differential pin in place?? I am installing a supposedly rebuilt 901 in a 71t today, and as I am prepping the new trans for install, I notice that the differential will not make a complete revoloution. It stops in two spots about 180 degrees apart. It comes to a stop with a loud thud. I was going to pull off the side cover and check, but this wasnt my rebuild, and didnt want to mess with someones elses work. The diff pin sticking out of the differential is the only thing I can think of that would cause this. I havent seen one apart in a while, but dont the Axle flange bolts go through the center of the diff pin, and locate it. Maybe someone missed this during assembly ??? Any help appreciated ,
Thanks

Take one of the flange bolts out and see if it has a simplfied diff. the bolt will have pin on the end. It should have been converted if it was rebuilt.....The bolt is what holds the shaft from coming loose.
