930 Trans Help
 

Hello Fellow Pelican Heads,
I am in the midst of a 930 trans rebuild. I was doing great with pictures, notes and tags and such until...
I got over zealous last night around 11pm and pulled the first gear synchro apart without noting the direction of the dogs. Can you guys take a look at this pic and let me know if this is the correct orientation please.

Here is a pic of the dogteeth for the curious folks out there... think I figured out why it was tough to get in gear and would grind terribly whenever I downshifted. Not being able to downshift to first makes autocrossing a real pain :)

Hmm... I am now wondering if I posted this in the correct forum??? Moderators, if this shoudl be in the 930 forum please move.
Just did a parts list of things needed for the rebuild... first estimate is $2,400 just in parts :(

On the top picture, the dog teeth should point toward the camera.
Unless all the dogs look like the one in your picture there is no need to change them all. Usually 3rd gear is the weak spot on the 930 box. I changed the synchro rings on 2-4 and dogs on 2 and 3 if I remember correctly

I finally got all of the parts and put the gear stacks back together. The parts ran roughly $2K for synchro rings, dog teeth and sliders. Was getting ready to torque the shaft nuts but had a feeling I should hold off. So I started to try to clean up the M8 fasteners. Yuck... after spending big bucks on the internals I figure I could drop a few bucks on the external nuts and washers. Bad news is that no one local carries metric stuff. Had to place an order. In the meantime I learned a trick of using Dow Corning 720 on the paper gaskets to ensure no leaks... needless to say, that had to be ordered too. Looks like I might have all the piece parts by Friday so I can button the box back up. The remaining piece parts can't come too soon. I am ready to be done with this and get on to that darn broken head stud!!!
By the way... I found some excellent blow up shots o fthe gear stacks and the proper way to reassemble the synchro hardware. If anyone evers needs it just drop me a PM!!!
