Piston/Cylinder opinions...
I made a post about this in the 930 forum...
I am starting to purchase parts for my 3.6 cranked 3.3 motor and the first item I am going for is a piston/cylinder set. Now I would like to increase piston size but I will not cry if I don't. I'm going for new or used and want to spend between 2 and 3k on a set. I don't want stock 930's for the reason of the cooling fins. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I don't like the idea of cutting the case- but a set of 100 mm's sounds very nice with a 76.4 crank...

I would be hesitant to put a 100mm big bore kit in a 3.0-3.3 case in a turbo application. The Mahle cylinders are too thin at the cylinder spigot base and have a tendency to crack under boosted conditions with the 3.2-3.6 rod. I think the short rod transfers to much lateral loading under high cylinder pressure. If you have to have the 100's talk to Charles at LN engineering. In my opinion the best combination is the 3.6 (76.4 crank) with 98mm cylinders. Bob Holcomb of Motorsport Design is selling a race car he build several years ago with that combination, it is was making north of 650hp at a reasonable boost setting. The last thing I would say is that I have used the factory 3.3 97mm "non-finned" cylinders in turbo race applications for years with no problems. I understand why some people don't like the idea of no fins on half the cylinder, but I personally have had good results with them. I would use JE pistons, not Mahle.I would ceramic coat the top and dry film the skirts.
