Locktite 573 or 574 for camtower to heads?

Hi, In the bentley or porsche orig workshop they refer to using the 573 when mating heads and camtowers. The specs are almost identically on these two products.

I cannot get the 573 locally, but I do get the 574. Any problems sealing with the 574 instead of the 573 on the heads/camtower?

The engine these go on is a 2.7 I took out of my 77S, I bought another (SC) engine for that car and this late 7R engine is currently going in pieces becoming a 2.7/2.8 RS spec engine.

The 574 is faster setting (only an hour) the 573 is slower setting (6 hours) I always use the 574, the orange stuff.

Spec sheet says:"574 Fast-strengthening version of 573. Begins to harden in 1 hour; reaches full strength in 12 hours. Comes in a paste"

This is one area I would go for the best money can buy.
That be "Dow Corning 730" @ $100 a tube!
Sand & clean mating surfaces very carefully as well for best oil tight seal.

574 has never done me wrong when applied properly, to properly prepared surfaces. The key is just being prepared so you don't have to backtrack after sealant has been applied.

Here we go again.....
I have used Loctite 574 and threebond (yamabond) 1104 and dow 730 all with good results. I prefer either the 110 or 730, just me preference though. Thankfully I have never paid anywhere near 100/tube for 730.......

Cheers

Aircraft Permatex in the brush on bottle, it was good in 1980 and still good today.
Stays pliable and out of the oil system

I think I used a small acid brush, but I have seen some use a small foam roller which seems to work very well to apply an even thin coat of the 573

I used some cheapo foam brushes from Lowes. They have a tapered end for tight spaces. Worked like a charm - brush didn't break apart or anything.
