Which way do the rod numbers face?
 
I am in the process of assembling a 1980 911 3.0 lts. Which way do the numbers on the connecting rods face. Up or down? When I took it apart the numbers were facing up on the right bank and down on the left. The manual I puchased says to face them all to the exhaust side. Which way is correct. Thanks for you time to help me out.

It doesn't matter. You only have to make sure the numbers match and are on the same side on the rod as on the cap. I put them all one way just to be consistant.
