Hi,
I will be converting my car from Webers to MFI in the near future, so I will need to get shorter cylinder head intake studs. Is there something special about the Porsche ones that are listed on Pelican, or will any M8 X 22mm from a hardware store work? Thanks, Neil P.S. Anybody got 12 they want to part with?

I've done it with nothing further to report, no issues. The metric hardware at my local hardware store is very high quality, I even use their socket head screws for CV joint bolts without any issues. Others will say different.
The prices there on metric specialty hardware are about double Pelican's prices but it's good to be able to get just 1 or 2 today when I really need it. |

Why take chances? Patronize our host whenever possible.
That said, I recently bought some black oxide DIN studs from another vendor because the OE Porsche studs our host sells are inappropriate for my engine because they are zinc plated. Be very careful what you buy, see this post for everything you need to know about DIN studs. An M8x22 stud is NOT 22 mm long. Assembling 1966 901/05 Engine- Phase I- Bottom End

In general I agree about buying from Pelican... However... if you order studs that need to come from Germany it takes 3+ weeks and costs more. I have done it as several I needed were not to be found at my local ACE or in lot of other on-line HW places. If you can get a good stud that works for your application I see no reason not to buy them locally. Though, most of the ones I have found locally are black oxide and not zink/CAD plated. My preferences are the reverse of John's here. You may also try the local dealer as they can usually get them in a week, but beware, they are not always the right part

Oh yeah, my local hardware store employs at least half a dozen young hotties who actually know about hardware. Maybe I go there a little more often than is actually necessary, strictly speaking.

Metric stuff is readily available up here. I buy CV bolts and intake and exhaust studs locally. Not like a lot of torque is going on an intake stud or exhaust stud......
