3.0 w/ webers dist advance
 

I am in the process of installing webers on my 3.0 sc. . Any advice as to who can recurve my distributor?? . Any harm in running it before it is recurved. I would like to get the carbs up and running, and synchronized before I send it off. I am assuming thay I will need more advance earlier in the rpm range with the carbs,so a little test drive firrst may not hurt??? . I just dont want any detonation. Any specs as to what I want to set my advance curve to .There is a local speed shop that has a distributor machine, and I may let them do it.

Insuring you have good solid spark is a prerequisite to tuning your carbs so be sure everything there is in order.

Someone may be able to help with the actual SC stock curve but you might try retarding is 2-3 degrees from the stock, static setting as a starting point until you get it re-curved.

One datapoint for you is my twin-plug 3.0 likes 9 degrees static up to ~1500 rpm then ramping up 22 degrees to a total of 31 degrees advance at 5000 and up. No detonation and the dyno showed it made best power on that curve. We did that curve and experimented more/less advance with an ECU then replicated that curve with a distributor later.

If your dizzy is a 80-83 SC dizzy then you will need to get it recurved. It will not advance enough to get max power. It won't hurt to drive it that way though. With carbs and 9.3 CIS pistons you can run about 30 degrees safely maybe a bit more. Set the idle advance to 5 degrees BTDC and then rev the engine to 6000RPM. Make sure you don't have more than 30 degrees total at 6000 RPM. You can play with the idle advance to try to get 30 degrees at 6000 RPM.
