Smoke

My rebuild -79 sc engine 3.2 ss from EBS and JE 9.8 pistons, are smoky at cold starts.

The sylinders, pistons and rings, was a complete set from EBS.

Anyone with the same problem inn here ?

Doc,

A few thoughts,..... :)

1) If the rings haven't seated yet, it WILL be smoky for sure. You need to do a proper break-in to facilitate this.

2) Did you check piston to cylinder wall clearances? Did you confirm ring gaps?

3) JE's do use more oil than the equivalent Mahle's due to mandatory increased clearances and thats just the way they are. Further, JE specifies a rather loose head land clearance that increases oil consumption and noise (when cold).

Do a leakdown test to see if the rings have seated yet. :)

Thanks Steve !!

The piston clearances are OK, and so are ring gap.
I may have to drive the car some more and then take a leak test.
There are not any noise from the pistons when the engine is cold.
The engine feels very powerful and are very responsive, so I am happy with the drive ability.
