Replacing Exhaust Studs 79 911SC
 

I am going to replace the exhaust studs on a 1979 911SC that I will be installing a set of on SSIs. Pelicanparts shows the correct size stud for a 1979 SC at 8mm x 51mm. Since I will be installing SSIs should I go with the 1965 - 1977 911 size of 8mm x 37mm ?

Now a real novice question, to remove the old studs -- I should use a MAG gas flame on the cylinder to loosen up the old studs? Are there any other tricks ? I do not want to break a stud in the cylinder.

Jack, this has been covered extensively here so if you search for "exhaust stud replacement" you should come up with lots of stuff. Absolutely heat the nuts to cherry red heat or the studs will break.

The later SSI are "thick flange" so the longer studs are used.

This is what I took off, I believe it is a ROW exhaust and didn't have the thick flange. I therefore assume, you are telling me to use the 65-77 studs since my SSIs (I got them used) also don't have the thick flange?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222094947.jpg

Yes, use the short studs for the thin flange headers.
