2.0S Nitrided rods

I just pulled apart a 69S long block. The connecting rods have a large "S" that appears to have been written with a white permanent marker.

Are these the special nitrided early S rods?

Are they black in color?

Here's pics.

Not black....But clearly factory marked as "S".

Must be something different between these and standard 2.0 rods.

Tom

Those are the "S" rods. I have seen them in different shades from black to about what you have pictured there.

Yes, only early 2-2.4 liter S were nitrated. My guess someone other than factory marked them with white S.

The white "S" marking is a factory marking usually found on the 2.0 S rods.

Somewhere I saw reference to "the special 2.0S nitrided crank".

Is there a difference between the 2.0S crank and the standard 66 mm CW crank?

I thought Porsche had all their cranks nitrided.
