Short Stroke 3.2 - Affordable

I've read the past forums about boring and re-plating cylinders. I have a 1979 3.0 SC.

If I am correct I can use a set of 3.2 cylinders, have them bored out and re-plated to 98mm, and then use JE 98mm pistons (for a 3.0- I assume sized to connect to my 3.0l rods) ??

Does this set up assemble to my 3.0l block with no problem? Do I have to do anything else now that the new cylinders will not have the sealing ring grove?

Do I have to do any different work to my heads?

Thanks, dog

I am building just such a motor at present. Am sending my disassembled 79 motor to EBS, who are also boring out a set of carrera 3.2 95mm pistons out to 98mm and plating. Am going with a set of 9.8:1 JE's, as i want a little extra uumph and this is still ok to run with single plug (Euro SC ran 9.8 without problems) The cylinders will mate up to the stock heads and case without any other mods. Hoping to get in touch with John Dougherty to do some DC cams. Talk to Don at EBS - these guys are amongs the top 5 in the engine machining biz, and can give you lots of advice regarding your build. Am also using Tbitz EFT with WBo2, which provides me reassurance with tuning. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. Yes, it helps to know that people are doing it.

I e-mailed EBS but they are away for a few days. I also corresponded with John Dougherty and since I like my torque to come on low, he recommended the mild 964 grind. I am going with the JE 9.5 to 1 compression. I've already have a set of used SSIs and a dented M&K 2 in 2 out exhaust. Now if only I had enough money for the Bitz EFI..

No prob. BTW, how have you gotten in touch with John Dougherty recently? Need to send my cams to him and not getting a return of my messages or emails.

John got back to me within a day or so.
It is possible he could be at the SEMA show this week, but I dodn't wait too long.
