CMW Motorsports Stroker kit
Does anyone have experience with CMW's stroker kits? Has anyone here built a motor using one of their kits? Specifically the kit that takes a 3.0/3.2 to 3.9? Will this kit build a street motor with lots of torque or a high rpm/hp motor?

I'm sorry, I don't know about their kits, but I do know that generally longer relative strokes are torquier and larger relative bores rev better. Of course there will be exceptions to this.

I've seen photos just recently on Henry's crank thread of one of CMW's cranks that they have made up billet. Look like great stuff. I know the cylinders they include are also top notch since I make them for them :-)

CMW Strokers
I have two CMW stroker engines.
one is a 2.9 based on a 2.7 7r. 93mm Bore, the second is a 3.7 based on a 3.0 case and crank, with 100mm jugs. The stroke is gained via crank mod. Twin plugged, currently put out 395 HP at the wheels with undersized throttle bodies.. Steve at CMW is very good to deal with.. We are currently doing a 4.2 kit, but it is still in the development stage on our end.. |

ONQRACing,
The 3.7 liter is it a race motor? how high is the compression? What kind of rpm are you attaining? What rpm will the internals safely tolerate? I ask because I am interested in building a street/track motor for my carrera with the 3.9 kit. I would like to attain 350hp with carbs or ITB's with a motor that has some longevity for the street. No emmission requirements where I am at.

3.7
We have the MoTeC set to a modest 7600 limit, but the dyno runs were in the 9's to see peak HP and TQ. I am running 964 cams which have about as large a lobe as will fit in the cam towers. the Compression is 14:1-1 but we are adding a shim to give more than a mm clearance, so we need to recalculate, SB around 13:1-1.
The pistons are JE that CMW machines the dome and valve relief for our spec. Full race, running TMW ITB's 3003 (undersized) off the 2.9 for now. Headers 1 5/8into SuperCraps. Very reliable, RPM is limited to keep meantime between rebuilds down. We get about 35 hours out of a top-end.. Both are torn down for winter rebuilds as we speak. Hope this helps.. Andrew |

Not bad for about 24.5k.. Economy what??? Might be letting the 2.9 go after rebuild.. Would like an RSR 3.8.. Santa, you listening??

What cam/compression running on the 2.9? Assume you dyno'd it at some point?

2.9 specs
The 2.9 runns leaded 110, and dyno's 305 at the flywheel. As for the Cams, I will need to find the specs, they are ELGIN, welded and custom grinds, proprietary grind over .500 lift, over 300 degrees seat to seat duration. Pistons are Wiseco

I have had experience with the CMW heads and I would not use them for paperweights. They machining is some of the worst I've seen and unfinished to the point that the sharp edges cut my fingers. The bigger is better philosophy that CMW uses (port size and valve diameter) is old school and does not work as well as newer technology available. I have flow bench data for flow and velocity on the heads as well as some dyno work. Not worth the money. |

Cmw
Well this is why they make chocolate and vanilla, right?
I only use CMW for the Piston domes, the heads are Porsche 3.0 worked in-house for plugs and valves. I have heard their heads are sharp out of the box, which is not good. My 964 cams are not stock profile, just use them as a base for custom. My current cam profile does not come in until 6800, I need to search for the lobe specs. |
