Lets assume cost no object, who makes the best header in a given size?


I hear great things about Georges, but the collecter looks a little suspect.....

Phase 9's? S-Car_Go? I hear Fabcar has some? Kanna has a secret new set?

well, mostly because i am interested i am posting here... but Jeff already knows my header story

from my own experience
B&B are better in terms of making power than SSI's
George's are better than B&B in terms of fit, sound, & power, but no heat...


all of this is on a 3.5L (100x74.4) w.carbs...

Burns Stainless would be up near the top of my list if I had no budget. Cox Motorsports, Frank Beck make some really good headers.

S-car-go (the ones made in the states) are really nice. Phase 9 is super nice because it is really a "system"

Peter Dawe makes a nice bowl of spaghetti set of headers.

Alot depends on if you need to run a muffler. Like I mentioned If I had really deep pockets Id go with Burns...as it is I have Georges

Some we made for a vintage Lotus 1600-powered vintage Formula B car.

I am working on a 911 set for a Rallye car. Will post some pictures soon. They are very nice however they are not cheap.

These are Burns Stainless 304. The 911 ones are 321/304.

How about for 500 hp-goaled supercharged 3.2?

Reid Washbon is the best I've seen to date. They build truly first class headers for all forms of racing.
They worked hand in hand with Andial in the early days and now surpasses anything I see produced in the retail Porsche after market world.
I have put Washbon products next to Burns Stainless and the quality difference is obvious and Burns far is a step above products like SSI, GHL and B&B.
Bring your America Express because this level of excellence is not cheap.

i cannot tell, by the picture there they do not look equal length, or of a fancy (merge) collector type.. the welds do look amazing..

Reid Washbon and some others in SC make extremely nice headers and I have use them over the years. Reid has been at it for a long time and is top notch.

For guys on the east cost wanting custom work there are, in the Charlotte area, some of the very best in the business. One of the very best is http://www.profabrication.com/

Their capabilities and talent are second to none. They can weld them up using bend segments or they can work from your cad file and bend tubes in one piece. No one makes nicer collectors.

Those are 935 headers,...:) Hopefully, they are made from Inconel for that application.

Absolutely! For example, if you were to order headers from Burns, or one of the other high end fabricator like Washbon which Henry mentioned. You will have to supply complete specs for your engine. Burns has a build sheet that you fill out that requires over 30 particulars about your engine.

The off the shelf headers, make compromises, they fit and work with all engines sort of....


I spoke with Burns and almost pulled the trigger and had them build a set of headers for me..... They quoted me over $3800 about 4 years ago.... in the end I went with something else.

Dawe wants $2000 for headers in mild steel.

I have a set of those 935 header, Iconel allegedly factory headers... who knows now.. they look exactly llike the Washbon ones sans a slip joint

Are they equal-length? I guess yes, why else would they bend them so complicated otherwise. I would like to hear them. It must be an interesting sound.

I've read the thread and want to show you guys my headers for a 3.6. I built them out of stainless, TIG welded, using Burns stainless collectors. These are equal length (within 1/8 inch as best I can figure). I built the system with a Flowmaster muffler and the entire system was ceramic coated. This summer I built a 2 to 1 pipe and eliminated the Flowmaster. The system is unbelievably loud. I ran it at Watkins Glen with and withouth the muffler. The new pipe was 1 sec a lap faster, a 2:09 something in an 84 with a 3.6. I was very happy with that. These pipes are 32" length. I'm building another set that will be 27 inch length. Burns stainless collectors are awesome but they are around $300 each, so it is difficult to build a set of headers under $2000.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1227401047.jpg
