944 guy needs advice from the Alusil meisters
I've asked my questions in the 944 board without much response, so I'm bringing it to the Alusil cylinder experts hoping for some advice.
I'm in the process of a minor rebuild of a 2.5L 944 motor, and am thinking of putting new piston rings on it while I have it out of the car. Fist off, Pelican sells a set made by Deves ( http://www.deves.com/ ) which also happens to be about half the price of OEM. Does anyone here know if these are any good and/or has had any experience with them? Also, is there any repercussions for installing new rings in a used Alusil bore that's in good shape? Will they break in properly, or should I keep the old rings on there unless I'm sure they are shot? Thanks in advance!

You will get arguments both pro and con. If the old rings are still good then I'd use them. I've found new sets with bigger end gaps than the old set. If you need new rings and the pistons measure up, then I'd re-ring. I wouldn't be afraid to use the Deves rings if they measure up. You need the numbers for piston land clearance, piston to cylinder clearance, and ring end gap. These should be in any repair manual for your car. There is a long thread on here about re-ringing Alusils. Basically you need to get them clean and scuffed up with scotchbrite.
