Goran, great shot. Is there a way to tell what bar spring you have? Did the factory every put anything other than .8 bar spring, and did weltmeister, and other mnftrs use a way to identify springs like TIAL does? I got a used factory wastegate last year for a project, and it came with an extra spring, which the guy i bought it from wasnt sure if it was .8 or 1 bar. thanks

very cool thank you!

Main problem is that boost is not proportional to spring tension only. A spring will deliver different boost depending on sizing of turbo, exhaust backpressure, muffler design etc.
So what was 0.7 bar spring can become 0.9 bar spring of Zork tube is fitted. |

Boost creep is when wastegate is too small to scavenge gases even when fully opened...so boost starts to raise at higher revs. This is usually not an issue with 930 wastegate as its valve is big enough. |
Juice,
I take full credit for those pictures that Goran unashamedly posted. The second one was the pinched diaphragm from the PO's mechanic. That necessitated the rebuild shown in the first picture. One more thing, the gasket between the cast iron valve body and the aluminum valve guide section is no longer available and when it tears upon disassembly, you will be OOL. Mark |
I'm sorry for not giving correct credits, I just searched for "wastegate picture" and pasted the picture URL.

I do, however, like the TiAL WG that is a direct replacement. |

Also, I believe it's SOL, not OOL:D Brett |
It's not paper, it's about 1/8" thick asbestos, and needs to be airtight or you'll have an intake leak.

Extra high-temperature gasket material (yes even 1/8" thick) is available in sheet form. It may be expensive, but it is available. It works well. |
Well, I just started exploring McMaster's website a couple of nights ago, and I clearly have some learning to do about materials.
FWIW, Andial have a few of these left, so I bought one. . .figure it will be good for another 40 years. |
