Shroud Hardware is Stripping!
While I was putting shroud and baffling together on my race engine project, I found that the bolts that hold the left cover piece on kept stripping out as I tried to screw them into the bolts that clip onto the shroud.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1230742823.jpg Anyone else run into this? Am I using the correct bolt? It seemed to work on the other side... |
John,
can you get a better pic of the threads? The bolt should have a very course sheet metal type thread, not the common metric thread you would use to mount the shroud cam towers, case, and fan ring. |
Aaron is correct. There are 3(?) of these coarse screws that mount in speed nuts clipped to the edge of the fiberglass. One DS two PS. They look very similar to front fender mounting screws (not the vertical fender support screws).
If you have the correct screw then bump the speed nut with a hammer to flatten (close) the two tabs that the screw mounts too. This should solve the problem. the other option is a new speed nut. |
Thanks. I'll start poking around in the the bag of bolts that I got in Pelican's rebuild kit and find the right screws.
