Dougherty Racing Cams - my experience

a few weeks ago I emailed John about getting some cams ( monday). I described what I was looking for in the way of a torq/hp curve ( torque peak at low rpm's, wide torque band ) and he immediately came back with an idea for a cam. a combo grind with a DC-20 intake and the DC-19 exhaust. we settled on the profile ( wednesday ) . he had a set of cores in stock so didn't have to wait for my cores. they were ground by friday and shipped out to me on monday and received soon after. now sitting in my shortblock waiting to be timed. amazing service. period. can't wait to see how they run. ps. I'm building a 3.0 with 9:1 JE's and webers, headers.

 Try Elgin cams

I too have purchased a set of Cams from John, no problems. However, upon working on an non P-car project, my son and I ended up visiting Elgin Cams in Santa Rosa, CA. http://www.elgincams.com/ Dema Elgin was very helpful to us, and my understanding is that he was instrumental in the development of most of the popular Porsche grinds many years ago. I think that oftentimes good guys like Dema get the short end of the stick??? Just my $0.02 Jeff

John is one of Dema's long time students, now on his own. John heavily interfaces with the online Porsche crowd, which is why we love him. These coupled with the fact that John will talk to you person to person and cook up a custom cam based on your specific needs and desires is why I go back to him again and again. Off the shelf is good, custom is heaven.

Hi Kenik, From what I understand there may be more to your statement "John is one of Dema's long time students, now on his own." I'll leave it at that. Jeff

I'm no expert, so I am sure there is more, just like any story with history.
