Center lube re-grind??

Does anyone know if early 'Solex' center oil cams can be re-ground to early S or Mod-S profile??

TIA

I went through this excercise recently. The short answer is 'no'. There's not enough lift to be gotten out of grinding them, even with taking material off of the base circle.

I opted for the "mod-Solex" grind from John Dougherty. Having run this grind for several thousand miles, it is much torquier than the 'S' cam, yet races to 7000 RPM almost as vigorously as the 'S' cams, but can still use the smaller ports of the Solex motor. I highly recommend this route, from experience.

You could weld up the cams and regrind to 'S' and beyond, but all recommendations from those in the know is to avoid hard welding cams.

I suggest going mod-Solex. It is literally the best small bore cam I have driven.

I agree, I would have the billets drilled for centerlube.

Dougherty's guy who used to center drill his cams went out of business, so he doesn't (at least last I talked to him) have a source for that work anymore. :(

No worries, mate. :)

We can handle that if you wish.

Why not do away with the center feed non sense and up grade to spray bars?
Costs a little more but the lubrication and cooling is far superior.
We have every thing necessary for this conversion.
