930 Chain Tensioners

I have a set of supposedly brand new 930 chain tensioners that I would like to use on my 3.0 rebuild. Both tensioners can be compressed with my thumb (pretty easily). Is there something I need to do to the tensioners before I can use them (add oil...). I want to be sure that they are good before I put them in my engine.

Thanks in advance!

No advice? I was under the imression that if the tensioner could be compressed by hand that it was no good, does this apply to a "new" tensioner that has never had any oil put in it?

The confusion may be in your title. The upgrade is usually referred to as "Carrera Chain Tensioners". Can you post a picture so that we can be sure?

I can tell you that with oil in them, you should not be able to compress them with your thumb...

Sorry, the tensioners that I am reffering to are the pre-oil fed tensioners that everyone upgrades to. I have a set with the 930 part number that the factory used from 1980-1983 ( give or take a year here and there).

Isn't there anybody that has installed a set of non-oil fed tensioners that can help out here?

They need oil in them. I have rebuilt my 930 tensioners but haven't installed
them yet. The rebuild instructions here
show filling them as part of the rebuild.

You should install the collars too, cheap insurance.
