can anyone recommend a machine shop in the NYC/NJ area that can re-surface heads and machine the valve seats?

Olsen Engines in Nyack, NY. Rockland County, is one of the best around. (845)353-0500.
He has worked on just about every type of engine you can imagine.
I've known him over 30 years and his work is in high demand.

Yes and make sure you sitting when you get the price quote...

I once asked Peter Dawe about Verdon... and found out that he (Pete) Started hi career there... He repeated the old maxim "you get what you pay for"

yes the prices are high there, but they do the best work and do not bull$hit their customers- if it needs it, they will tell you.

I did not know that about Peter Dawe, that is a hell of a great place to start a carreer in engines/cars/machine work

I also always enjoy talking to Bob about engines and machine work when I get work done.

Tim, Peter Dawe started his career at ANDIAL, I think he was the third employee after the founders.

Dawe told me that he has spent 20 years "cultivating" the relationship with Verdon so they do Porsche stuff to his standards. Basically, in a nice way, saying, "if you deal with this vendor do not be an A-hole because they are too important to my business to deal with A-holes." I like Peter.

Bill and I had lunch with Peter a few months ago... I may has missed something in the converation, but he mentioned that he got his start with Verdon a long time ago...maybe I didnt catch the conversation accurately. I do know he worked with Andial as well...

Does/did Bill own a Viper Green RS; I'm wondering if he's the same Verdon from the NNJR DE events back in the late 80's...
