sportomatic

Hello, is a question about a sportomatic gearbox also allowed ?
It is about a 3L sportomatic with the 925 gearbox.
The porsche handles fine when it is cold. But when it is warm, and you want to go from neutral (P) to any gear Revers, L or D, than the RPM drops completely and the engine comes to a stand still.
I checked all the lines on air leaks but found nothing.
I regulated a bit on the adjustment screw of the control valve for a softer engagement.
any other ideas ?
Thanks and regards.

Apparently not so many people know about the sportomatic.
Hand shifting is of course a lot more fun.
But nevertheless, the problem has to be solved.
Thanks for looking.

I have no knowledge about sportmatics. Has the engine had a tuneup lately?
I would make sure that your fuel injection is properly set, and throttle linkage is adjusted.

Wink

check the wiring at the base of your shifter first, then dismantle the vacuum pump, you will find a vacuum seal that deteriorates over the years, the solenoids regulating your system can be faulty as well, check if one of them gets really hot, and there is more. i had some problems with a 905 transmission. i learned allot since i didn't want to give up and swap for a 5 speed. after rebuilding the entire system and everything worked fine i was satisfied and then swapped it to manual. i just didn't want to surrender until it worked. make sure to go through it systematically. ...oh yeah, check the torque converter!!! that can be the cause as well.

good luck,

Just one post and already you are answering questions in significant technical detail on subjects pretty much no one else has a clue on. Welcome!!!

thanks for the kind words, i hope the problem will be solved. sportos are unfortunately not appreciated. but they are the ancestors of PDK and DSG gearboxes. they were even raced by the factory in the late 60's, turning faster lap times than the 5 speeds.

Thanks a lot for this good information,
I will work on it and get back if one of these solves the problem.
I don't want to give up eigther.
And I agree, the sportomatic is undervalued.
regards
