Idler Arms and Tensioners

Can you use the new style idler arms with the older spring tensioner?

You will need to machine some off the tensioner arm for them
to fit on the shaft alongside the wider idler.

All the hydraulic tensioners after about 1980 were made with narrow support and a washer was made to hold the tensioner and the idler apart
If you have the wider idler, you should have the narrow tensioner.
If you have the narrow idler and a narrow tensioner, you need the shim washer
If youre trying to use a wide tensioner with the wide idler, youre tensioner is way too old
Replace it
