Sandcast Aluminum case with Mag Chainboxes

When you guys use the early aluminum cases how do you use the mag chainboxes?? the early AL stuff uses 3 nuts and two dowel pins for the chain boxes while the mag stuff uses nuts&bolts on all 5. Do you have to remove the pins and replace them with studs? is it ok without anything?? it would look goofy and I'd be afraid of leaks trying this set up. If you have to, how do you remove the pins and replace them with the studs? Please help....please.
Thanks,
Nabil

I KNOW I'm not the first person to run into this. Come on. What did you guys do? I can proceed with the rebuild until this gets dealt with.....at this rate I might be missing out on early season victories if I'm still down for the count ;-))
HELP!

You can update to later chain boxes by changing the pins to studs as you mentioned.

I've done this on a couple motors to use pressure fed tensioners more easily.

I'd suggest using SC style aluminum boxes however; the mag ones are very leak prone.

Good luck.

Thanks!! I was getting nervous that I wouldn't get a response! So.....How did you get the pins out? are they threaded on the other side? Do you apply a little heat and yank on the visegrips? Then do you have to thread the holes? Sorry, don't wanna beat a dead horse but this is my first one and I don't wanna mess it up.
Thanks in advance,
Nabil

Ollie's Machine did the project for me, I think I was the first to ask them to do this in around year 1980. I supplied the parts for them.

You need the longer 8 X 28 mm studs that go in the dowel sleeve locations #999.062.009.02 and the dowel sleeve itself #901.101.145.00.

The case needs to be heated to remove the original dowel studs (I believe after a central hole is drilled in the stud to remove retention stress and then tapped for a screw to withdraw the stud using a slide hammer), a recess needs to be then milled to accept the pressed in dowel sleeve and an central hole is drilled and tapped for the longer stud in the center of the sleeve.
