RPM limit for "S" cams?
I am still trying to gather my engine parts for my 2.4 rebuild using 2.2S pistons and I have set of Web-cam reground "S" cams.
Will be running Individual Throttle Bodies/EFI and some engine management system which i have not decided on yet. I was told that these cams are good for power up to 7200rpm. Can some one confirm this? Books have the redline, but do they give up power there?

Yes "S" cams will pull to 7200 and beyond. Make sure you have a rev-limiter.

I was told that they give up the ghost at about 7000? Do they make power above that with the proper fueling/timing?
Just wondering if I should upgrade my valve springs or not? I just ordered new OEM springs but was under the impression that the cams will not make power much over 7000rpm. ie power drops off.

The rest of the motor might give up at 7000 RPM if the ports, valves, or throttle valves are too small. The cams will pull beyond 7200 if the rest of the motor is sized correctly for the cams.
For your 2.4 you need 36mm intake ports and "S" size throttle bodies or 40mm carbs. If you want to stay with a 7200 RPM redline then the stock springs are fine. If you want to race and rev above 7200 then you need aftermarket springs or titanium retainers or both. Be sure that this is a true "S" grind and not a "Mod S" grind. Only the true "S" grind is safe with stock springs. The ramps are shallower. -Andy

I built a couple of these years ago and they were good for 225 horses on the dyno.
You have to trim the skirts to miss the counterbalancers on the crank but it is minimal The compression ratio comes out to 10.3 Bruce |

If your motor has the lungs, an 'S' cam will make rising power to almost 7500 RPM.

I have the ports matched to the PMO manifold but will have to measure the head port size to be sure. The Bodies are 40 mm TWM units that will run fuel injection.
I will check with web-cam and see what they are, number is still on the box. I would be super happy with 200hp. Hope it all works out.
