1973.5 2.4 L question

My question is I'm looking to purchase a 3.0 l from either 1978 thru 1983. But I have a 1973.5 2.4l that needs to be rebuild. I wanted to know if it make sense to rebuild the engine and then sell it or just sell it as is? Which option would offer the greatest return. If I do rebuild its going to be all OEM parts. The engine does have the carrera chain. The engine comes complete with CIS clutch and bursch muffler.
Thanks

Sell it as-is or part it out, if you must. These motors have one thing going for them - the small spigot 7R case. Highly desirable to the racer needing a strong case for a small bore engine.

If this is the matching case to your car, consider keeping it. The CIS T cars are really gathering a collector's following. You'd hurt the value of a CIS T car dramatically if you let it go.

the 1973.5 engine 2.4 L was in my 1981 sc targa when I purchased it. That why I'm trying to get a 3.0 L for my targa
Thanks Kenikh

Wacky! Yea, sell it off complete, as-is. There may be a CIS T owner chomping at the bit to get one!

What shape is the 2.4 in?

It was running when I removed it. But I see some oil not sure what that means but I would definately be looking to rebuild it . But it has a bursch muffler, clutch flywheel and it has the carrera chain tensioner

I also have a 73.5, seeing oil is not unusual on these engines. I recently put an '86 3.2 in after giving it a top end rebuild. I wouldn't bother with the rebuild unless you were going to re-install it. Cost of the rebuild is fairly high even if you do the work yourself.

whats a fair price?
