2R + 3R = ONE, or no?

Did a tear down on a 70 911T engine I bought out of someone's garage sale 3 years ago. I was advised a rebuild was more costly than just parting it out... that rang true, but for someone with a 70 911T parts are parts. I've pretty much broken even on what I paid for the engine. I haven't any history on the engine except what I found on teardown. Just one burnt exhaust valve and rear seal leaked for awhile. All else is fairly pristine. I sold the Zeniths and linkage and etc. right away. Crankshaft is mic'd perfectly Std/ Std. Rockers are all good. Heads and cooling fins are not broken. If you want to check out or buy something: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/manage.php

While I was pressure washing the case halves I noticed that one was a 2R and the other 3R. Is this sort of thing done occassionally on a rebuild? Obviously, someone rebuilt it this way and it worked fine because like I said, most of the engine was good on teardown. Is this an okay practice, or a no-no. Obviously, the preference is matching halves I guess. But can I sell the case halves together like this, as long as reveal this. What do you think. R.
