Making room for the new heart.

I removed the 2.5L race motor and trans the other day to make room for the new motor. This was the first time I used my mid rise lift to do this......It was stupid easy. No more balancing act or rejacking the car for clearance. It took a little over 1.5 hours from drain to drop solo with the lift.

I'm picking up the new 2.5L "Monster" tomorrow from my friends at Aase motors. More pics will follow.

inspiring... very nice engines, that lift looks like a must, I want!

87 clubsport 04-04-2009 08:26 PM

where I can get the engine lift?

304065 04-05-2009 05:19 AM

Chad, call Damon at Series900, 603 863 0090, order a clear "ST" shroud and engine tin for that baby!

I can't see external differences, is the new motor twin plug?

Plavan 04-05-2009 07:17 AM

Hi John,
No twin plug this time. When I was originally building it, the Datsun guys at VARA were crying a river about another racers twin plug motor. For $ and headache reasons I passed on the twin plug setup this time around. I'll have to check out those fiberglass shrouds.

The differences between the new motor is:
Non-CW crank (spins faster)
Pauter Rods (piece of mind with trips upto 8K if needed)
edit- 49mm intake valves/ 40mm exhaust
GE-60 cams (a little better low end-and clearance for bigger intake valves)

If/when I rebuild the #1 motor it will probably become a twin plug. I have been thinking of possibly selling it to help fund the next project.

the lift came from:

Best tool ever!

Ooops- I thought you meant car lift not engine lift. The table lift (500 pound capacity) came from Harbor Freight- it was on sale for $130-ish. Perfect companion for the car lift when dropping the motor.

Chad LOL, you mean 49mm intakes not 39, right?

Plavan 04-05-2009 10:30 AM

LOL yep. 49mm not 39mm (1995 993 Valves), that would of been a crap motor... :)

I made more progress this weekend. Almost there. I'm just taking time cleaning parts and double checking stuff. You cant put dirty parts on a new motor.
The trans will not be done till next weekend, so there is no real hurry.

The anticipation of starting it is growing.....I will really have to double check my checklist so I do not forget anything. :p

Chad,
Who made the stinger for your headers? Are they European Racing Headers?
Thanks
Doug

Plavan 04-13-2009 06:25 AM

Hi Doug,
Yes those are George's Headers (European Headers) with a ceramic coating.
The Stinger Exhaust is the actual prototype that a guy made that was later sold at Performance Products. It is stainless steel that I polished out. The thing will last forever. It also has a bung port for tuning.
If you call over to Aase Motors in Fullerton, CA and speak with Allan, he might be able to point you in the right direction to buy one.

A friend's 2.8L 240Z (AXer) is running 14:1 compression (single plug)....and that 300 hp motor is now"old tech". He says his builder now tells him that 350hp is a "normal" occurrence. Cry me a river indeed.

It is time to shove it back in there. It is sooooo clean. I do not want to get it dirty. I can't wait to start this sucker.
