What power upgrades are available for 2.4T (Zenyth carbs)
Hello everybody,
My clutch has failed so I want to up the power a bit with the rebuild. What could I do to increase the power? Right now I have K&N filters with watershields on, but no other mods. |
How much do you want to spend? The cheapest way is higher compression pistons from a 2.2 and some E cams.

dont know really, nothing fancy, maybe some 7000 usd including rebuild (prices for work are cheap in Lithuania, so mostly 6k on parts)
Where could I source E cams? |
I have a pair of E cams in good condition. Send me a PM if you are interested and I will find out about shipping from the UK to Lithuania.

I was just going through an old chart and have the following to add:
2.0 E 901/09 had a cam timing 29/39 intake 39/19exh 2.2 E 911/01 " 21/34 " 40/6 2.4 E 911/52 " 18/36 " 38/8 All provided peak torque at 4500 rpm. The first E is same as solex timing. Trivia, I know. For me S pistons or 2.7 RS carrera and E cams. My 2cents worth |
The cheapest performance increase would be to remove a copper ring from underneath a cylinder to increase the CR. Moving to E cams may require that the valve clearances be increased in the pistons which is some machining. Either change will require that you check the piston-valve clearance as well as the piston-head clearance at TDC. It's not certain that you'll have enough clearance to either or both.
As far the the specifics of the cam timing, over the years I've found considerable conflicting information. Without having the 3 cams in front of you and running them on a Cam Doctor, I don't know how you'd get to the bottom of the question. Everyone seems to claim to have a different answer. |
