Need some help thanks
I’m planning on rebuilding my 3.0L 1978 Euro engine. After reading Wayne Dempsey book there are 2 options I’m interested in
1) Case 3.0L Crank 3.0L (70.4mm), JE Pistons (95mm) Cylinders 3.0L (Nikasil) Cam 964, CIS Heads 3.0L, Displacement 3.0L Ratio 9,8:1 Option 2) Case 3.0L Crank 3.0L (70.4mm), JE Pistons (95mm) Cylinders 3.0L (Nikasil) Cam S, Carburetors Heads 3.0L 36mm ports, Displacement 3.0L Ratio 10:1 Now this will be a summer car money issue isn’t an issue because I plan on taking my time. This will be a street car no racing but love just knowing that I have the power if ever needed. Also if I ever wanted to sell which option will have 911 enthusiasts calling? What type of power shound I expect from either option. In addition I will install SSI's, and a 1974 muffler. Thanks in advance |
I started my project car with a very similar engine.... 82 911SC.
However, I decided to go with larger Cyl/Pis to 98mm and the 964 cams. This was a great set up and a great improvement over stock. I ran my car in this configuration for about 8yrs. My understanding is that if you go past 9.8CR you will need to go with a Twin plug set up to prevent detonation. Now I am in the process of rebuilding my motor and most likely going to a twin plug. I am running carburetors and will be using a more aggressive cam and higher CR so will be getting new pistons. If you are looking to save some money I am actually going to sell my 964 cams. If you decide to go with the larger pistons (JE 98mm, 9.5:1CR) I have these too. Both of these items only have 10k miles on them and were only used a few times at Driver Ed events the rest was sunday driving. Not sure about the HP since I never took it to get it dyno. However, you will notice the difference over stock. GM |
