RS longblock ordered on 4/28/09
Our customer requested a 2.7 RS spec long block on April 28, 2009.
She's ready to ship today. Sometimes things just fall into place. Could you explain the benefits of 'Dow Dry film coating'? How does the 3.0 908 style pump differ from a standard SC style pump? Finally, are those tensioners purely mechanical? BTW, thank you for helping me with my cams and working with Dougherty. Engine is together and back in car. Should be firing up soon. |
Dry film lubricants are solid materials that provide low frictional resistance between surfaces when applied directly to interacting surfaces. Each material has different properties. Crystalline lattice (lamella) structure materials, such as molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide and graphite, are widely used as agents in lubricants and as stand-alone lubricants. These materials are used independently or in combination with other agents and metals (lead, copper) to achieve the desired results. Lamella lubricating powders have low shear forces between their crystalline lattice layers that minimize resistance between sliding surfaces.
Research shows Moly when combined with oil is perhaps a 1000% better at reducing friction than oil alone. The 3.0 and 908 pumps have the same basic design. The 908 pump was mag and the 3.0 SC pump was aluminum. My statement should have read 3.0/908 when attempting to describe the type of pump. The magic to the pumps we run is in the port work we perform on the inside of every pump we use. Test show a 15% flow improvement over the stock pump configuration. This engine was assembled with 930 Turbo tensioners with chain savers added. This aids in maintaining a period correct appearance. What you see in the pictures are tools used to set the cam timing. Engine looks great. On a side note, ARP is now offering stud sets for the engine cases (not the cylinder studs) Sounds like a waste? Maybee you and I can go into business making carbon fiber component for the engine and make a fortune. |

I notice that you have cad plated or zinc dichromated the through bolts....did you heat treat them after plating or are you being *brave* and just puttin them in as they are? Dennis |

If you don't mind me asking; What processes are you using to get you engine parts so clean with such an even surface finish? Your timing covers and boxes look flawless! Also, what plating process are you using on the fasteners? They are very bright and look awesome! thanks, -Adam |
