Can 993 pistons and cylinders be used in a 964?

Greetings,

I was told that I could run 993 pistons and cylinders in my 964 if I got new rods machined correctly to accomodate the pistons. Does anyone know if this is correct? I am starting a rebuild on a 964 that does not have the updated cylinders and can save some money with used 993 P's and C's and new rods.

I guess option two would be to have the cylinders and heads machined to take a ring or gasket - do these work well?
