2.7 with a 3.0 crank

A friend of mine is considering a motor purchase. Its a 2.7 that seems to be rebuilt right (shuffle pinned, oil squirters, new pistons and cylinders etc) but the seller says it has a 3.0 crank.

My questions is regarding the crank....what does a 3.0 crank offer in terms of performance or reliability over a 2.7 crank.

Thanks

The cranks are completely different and not usable in opposite applications.
the 76/77 3.0 Carrera used a 2.7 crank and rods with 6 flywheel bolts
the 78 and later used a 9 bolt flywheel although the stroke is the same the rods are not identical, as they use different bearing shells

Thanks Bruce. It will be in the shop next week so we'll figure out what the motor is at that time.

Bruce, TRE told us that it was a 2.7 with a 3.0 from a 76/77 turbo......seems that they have the same bolt pattern.

I own a 76 930 and indeed it does have a 2.7 crank. All 74 to 77, Carrera, Carrera Turbo, and 2.7 S used the 70.6mm stroke crank and it was in fact a 2.7 crank.
The 78 and later 3.0 used 70.6mm stroke but different rods and bearing sizes but stroke remained the same.
What ever the crank orgin, its a 2.7 and was used in the 3.0 /carrera 3.0 and Carrera Turbo 76 and 77 only
