engine thermostat HELP
 

Is it possible to remove and replace the engine thermostat with out dropping the engine or removing the FI? could any one send pics of the process? thanks for your time.

Without unhooking anything you can support the chassis on jackstands to firm the chassis and lower the engine with a floor jack several inches. Remove the top boot between the airflow sensor and the throttle body.
Spray carb cleaner and air pressure all around the thermostat..you want the area clean, its the main oil galley. the thermostat has 2 6mm (10mm socket) nuts and spring washers and can go in only one way. You cant install it wrong.
Also change the idiot light switch next to it, it has a red top but will leak too
Put a new gasket on the thermostat as they are brittle and fall apart
dont waste a lot of time as your main galley is open to dirt and it is 2 individual jobs, dont do both at the same time.

I replaced one in my 77s Targa, without dropping the motor, but I did move the air box. I didn't have to remove any fuel lines. I did run into a problem pulling the thermostat out, it wouldn't come out after I took off the nuts, and with things being hard to get at, I couldn't really pry on it. Instead I drilled a hole into the middle of the old thermostat and tapped some threads, being super careful to control the metal shavings!!! Then I made a "bridge" out of a piece of aluminum bar stock, with a hole in the middle with a bolt into the thermostat and two threaded holes with long bolts that touched the case that I kept tightening until the thermostat pulled out.
