chain ramps

Hi Guys, Been lurking for a while, I am resealing a 71 2.2t motor and got it out of my 9146, took the top end down to the pistons. Then I discovered the engine has high compression pistons and cams that have "E" numbers on them. I understand they could have been reground at some point and the only way to tell is a cam doctor....so today I am putting cam sprockets on and I notice that the chain ramp on the left is brown, not black. Pull out Waynes book to confirm, double check the shop manual....So is there some reason/benefit to this configuration or did some fall asleep at the wheel? Would love to hear from the brain trust on this and just want to say thanks to Wayne for the forum and you guys for the help.
John

ramp

Check it against a known "brown" ramp to be sure, I have bought some that were brown in color that were the dimension of the black, the height of the black from the pin's centerline to the rub surface is thicker than the brown. The proper location for the brown ramp is the lower position in the case on the 4-5-6 side all the rest are black.

Hey Mike, thanks for the response. My brown chain ramp is on the 1,2,3 side and is the lower most out board one visible. It is different in both length and depth to a known black ramp. The motor ran great, really strong, and it wasnt till I got a look at the pistons that I found out why. It was sold to me as a stock 2.2t motor. I will switch the ramps around before buttoning up the motor.
Thanks
John
