Pauter Rods Question

I recently acquired this set of Patuer Rods. I have the instructions, invoice and spec sheet from Pauter and given the maching marks I believe they are either unused or rebuilt.

In the photo below you can see that 5 out of the 6 rods have been machined on the top of the small end and one is original. Does anyone know why? Is this part of the balancing work done ? It would seem to be the most logical place to remove material from...?

Thanks Gang!

Yes. You remove weight there when balaancing the small end, to match the lightest one and then all have same weight. The big end is balanced the same way (remove weight to match lightest one), and you can also see (near where caps are numbered) where they remove weight on the big end. Measure weight of big end, small end and overall.

Regards,

Nice rods Cam! Have you had them tested? I bought a used set of Carillos once, sent them to Carillo for inspection ad 2 were cracked! Just an FYI, if they were ever used, which it sounds they might not have been.

By the way, I went w/ R&R rods, so at least this is one way we won't be identical!

There is a thread about three miles long with Henry S. and Snowman (and some others) about these and the C. Rod
You might want to read it (Very long )

John

Big End are 2.4016" which equates to 61.0006mm so looks like Porsche Big end

Centre to centre is 5.118 or 129.997mm

Afterburn - that's some thread!

That's all STD for a short stroke rod.

Pauter Rods are normally balanced to withend 1/2 gram from the factory with no evidence of small end machining for weight matching. Regardless, you have a great set of rods. Highly recommended.
