102mm cylinders in a 3.0 case?
 

Hey guys,

I am almost certain this is impossible due to spigot diameter, but a seller advertising slip fit 102mm mahle cylinders for a 3.0-3.2 case responded with this;

"ordinarily a 102 MM cylinder would not slip into a 3.0- 3.2- 3.3 case however these special mahle 102MM cylinders come with a "factory machined" reduced skirt diameter allowing them to fit pre 3.6L cylinder case bores"

Can someone please confirm for me that the seller is..confused?

Many years ago, Andial sold a Mahle machine-in 102mm cylinder that required the case to be machined to 107mm case spigot. That left little to no area for the cylinder to seal against the case and many of these cylinders suffered from cracks at the intersection of the cylinder base and skirt, with little use. I was told at one point that there were very few of them, maybe a dozen sets. A slip-fit 102 is impossible, they have to be the old Andial 102s for their 3.7 kit I would think.

We manufacture a similar Nickies cylinder, but use a 106.50mm case spigot register, so provide the minimum amount of sealing surface required to allow the cylinder to seal properly. Even though our cylinder is thinner, we don't have any problems with cracking or distortion due to our alloy's characteristics. We even run slip-fit 100s that fit in the stock 103mm case spigot with no problems and have so for years.
