Euro Carrera 3.0
Hi Guys
I am currently putting parts together to rebuild my Euro carrera 3.0 This engine uses the 2.7 6 bolt crank which I want to keep and build as a little screamer I have a bent rod and would like views on the R&R & pauter rods,I take it I use the 2.7 version of either for my C3 crank ? I would also like to know the real world differences of the JE's from LN and the standard JE 10:5.1's I have DC40 cams, ported ,twin plug, flowed heads and will be using uprated springs with ti retainers,Jenveys and aftermarket ecu Has anybody built anything similar on here recently ? be nice to hear your views before I spend money Cheers Andy

The LN JEs are really nice - Charles matches them very nicely to the Nickies and does some special sauce in terms of anti-detonation machining on the crowns. Definitely worth the effort and if you buy cylinders, since you get a price break on the pistons if you do. If you are using 95mm cylinders, this will give you a 2.8 short stroke on the 66mm crank. This motor is the de facto "dream configuration"; just search for the numerous threads on this configuration by Henry Schmidt. If you are going with all new P/Cs, also consider going with some 98mm P/Cs. These are the pistons used on the ubiquitous 3.2 short stroke (short stroke in this instance refers to the 70.4mm crank, sonce most 3.2 motors are built on the Carrera 74.4mm crank). This will result in a 3 liter displacement on the 66mm crank. 8K is standard operating procedure for this kind of motor, not something you'd attempt on a 70.4mm crank. I have the R&R rods, as well. They are amazing pieces of engineering - IMO they are the most modern steel (moly) rod you can buy today. They are strong, stiff and relatively light, especially compared to Porsche rods. Definitely worth the effort and cost. The best rod you can buy short of the Pankl GT3 titanium rods. The motor I am building uses LN sourced JEs, Nickies and R&R rods. Although still in assembly, every piece is in the "jewelry quality" camp. You'll only be sorry that you'll never see them again once they are in the motor...until you drive the car for the first time. Charles is on vacation through the end of the month, so you have time to research and decide. I am ordering new pistons from him when he gets back, so have had all of these conversations with him very recently. Good luck, whatever you decide!

Kenik thought you might reply your name came up on a few R&R searches
![]() Cranks staying C3 i cant afford to replace ,the motor should still be a little screamer anyhow. I have emailed Charles but wanted alternative views,I wiil be using my Mahle cylinders which have been measured mid spec. The JEs seem to have very large cut outs where the LN design dosent, why is this ?

Off the shelf JEs are typically more generic, catering to the least common specification denominator. Charles (and any builder) has the opportunity to order pistons to custom spec, which I believe he does - at least to what he considers his "off the shelf" spec.
