Rebuilding top half..
I had my head boiled and machined last year and didn't get to the project until this year. When I took the head out of the trunk of the car I found it had surface rust all over it. Can I just take some steel wool and a solvent and scrub it down or do I have to send it back out again?
Thanks in advance for your reply.. Regards, Joe |
The heads should be aluminum. The valves will rust, I coated mine with oil while I am waiting.

take some pics of all sides and post them so the corrosion can be seen.
if it's just the steel parts that are rusty they can be removed and if not bad phosphoric acid or a wire wheel will remove rust from the studs. i wouldn't use rusted valve springs. they might break. |
