2.4.liter engine building

Hi . in the search of good power for a vintage race car, and looking for about 200+hp, my mech is talkting about building from an 7R case , S pistons and S cylinders, He mentions the use of SOLEX cams instead of the S cams. to get full power in lower revs than the S cams. What do you experts think of this combination ? Thanks for the replies. Francois

Hi, This is a complex subject, but I can tell you that using stock "S" pistons with Solex cams, you'll not see 200HP without a lot of work. Assuming that you can use close-ratio gears, "S" cams are a far better choice for a race car.

Years ago when parts were available we would use 2.2 S pistons on the 2.4 crank and rods S cams and injection if we could locate it and wound up with 200+, upward to 220 horses at10.3 CR. Probably could do near 200with the 2.2 E pistons at 10/1CR Bruce
