2.0s dizzy, broke plate, is it worth anything as core?
 

I have a 2.0s dizzy, I believe there's a black hardened steel (cam?) plate, under the counterweight, that looks broke. I can push the bits around with a screwdriver tip, the counterweight is flopping. The springs are intact and the shaft is tight. Bit of surface rust (steel body) yellow tag, bosch. #0 231 159 002.

Is it worth anything? I have good idea what a good one is worth :eek: and I'm wondering if this is worth anything as a core or parts? Ball park fair price?

If toss it... I'll toss it in my scrap pile, if it's worth something I'll list it.

It's worth something to anyone who has a broken one not broken like yours ;) List and see. Or, better yet, try and find a replacement part and fix yours... then it will be worth :eek:

That broken part is the sliding surface. It's a very thin phenolic piece that sits on top of the metal plate and they get very brittle and break into pieces. This is normal with these older distributors. You can buy a replacement teflon sliding surface from Stoddard. It's made for a 356 distributor but can be easily modified for the 911 2.0 distributor.

I've been told thats just a plastic (anti-friction) plate?

Is there a linky to a parts diagram? Maybe I could fix it, cash hasn't traded hands yet on the replacement.

I'm a VW bug guy, ( I have a 914) if it was a bug dizzy I'd toss it in scrap and get a better one at the swaps for $5

Price for the used real deal is more than I paid for the crankfire upgrade on my SDS fuel injection. Found a new one cost, about the same price as my whole SDS system.

Ok I found the issue and I think even I can repair, the phenolic plate has self-destructed and with the help of that diagram and that link maybe it's no longer a core!
I think the CW slipped off the pin. now I need to figure out why.

I got the pins to engage on the weights and they swing proper now, but one pin is shorter than the other...is that correct? I'll have pic's up shortly.

That looks right. You'll see a slot on the plate that hold the sliding surface & weights and the longer pin rides in that slot. Clean it up real good, replace the sliding surface and reassemble and you should be in business. No guarantee the advance curve will be perfect but you should end up with a working distributor.

I can get it rebuilt, no parts $130 recurved or try a a $1.18 part....

New plan is to fix this one, but buy the 2.2 S dizzy as well, see how they compare, tune it with my wideband and flog the one not wanted. Might even do a couple of pulls.

Least I get to drive a 911 for a few weeks! woo-hoo!
