Engine oil cooler

I have been chasing an oil leak on the 69 911 for quite a while and today I have located the definite cause.

The questions I am hoping someone can offer some assistance with is
1) Can the cooler be removed without dropping the motor
2) Once removed can the coolers be recored like car radiators?
2) are the non OEm coolers sold by our host any good

The part number on the oil cooler is 901 107 041 02

Thanks

Michael

Yes, a partial drop of the engine is required, so you might as well drop the whole thing
No, this is not economically feasible
I would not use anything other than an original Behr unit

Who does ultrasonic cleaning in Australia? You should find a shop like this Pacific Oil Cooler Service, Inc. - Home, this is Pacific Oil Cooler, I send all coolers and tanks to them for ultrasonic cleaning. It's amazing what they find in them (they send you the debris in a little plastic bag).

Depending on the shroud, if you have the black metal plate over the oil cooler you can remove it in the car, pulling the 2 pieces of sheetmetal on the sides.
If you have the grey channel pop riveted to the shroud then you need to remove all the intake, carb or injection, and the whole shroud, then some sheet metal..sounds like you should pull the engine at this point.

Thanks for the info.

I note that a reference is made to using the Behr coolers are the aftermarket ones that bad?? at less than half the price of OEM i must admit i am tempted.

Regarding the non OEM coolers. I'd like to find out any first hand knowledge about them. I don't think they could be worse than the 3 used ones I've gone through in the last 2 years. New OEM coolers are cost prohibitive.
