MFI pump 911E 2.2
Hi all,
i have a question with regard to MFI pumps. I have a 911E 2.2. The car drove really fine, apart from excessive oil consumption. But the car was quick (could still do 220 km/h), the engine picked up revs nicely. However, the engine was worn out. Pistons have marks, so have cilinders. When I decided to go for an engine rebuild I have rebuilt everything (cilinder heads, cilinders, pistons, all bearings, etc). Now the engine has worked again and the engine runs rich on low and higher revs. the engine puffs some grey/black smoke. Can the MFI pump be adjusted to a leaner mixture or has the pump died and has that caused my engine to have worn out? Michiel |
The short answer to your question is...Yes the pump mixture can be adjusted. Do a search on the 911 BBS for the Ultimate MFI resource thread. There is a wealth of information on that thread on all things related to MFI. Additionally you will want to download a .pdf of the Check-Measure-Adjust Manual which has all of the proceedures and specs that you will need. The special tools that are required to adjust the pump are available from our host.
The pumps are preety stout and do not require alot of maintenance. They can be rebuilt by a number of people if need be. I would only consider this if you can not get the pump to respond correctly to adjustments. Generally the throttle bodies are the problem more so than the pump. |

I had my throttle bodies done as well. There was room on the valve houses. This is all gone now and they have been perfectly aligned since. The mixture is very rich at idle and also when revving up. I hope that the previous owner had to 'richen up' the fuel mixture in order to have the engine work properly.. |
