Update! Would say I am 90% done. Spent about 5 hours cleaning and scrubbing. Only 2 spiders came out of it alive... :)
Thanks for all the input guys. I am going to just go black on everything (tin, etc), and a red fan (yeah I know....lol). Thinking of making the Porsche Valve covers red too...? Purple stuff worked! Need a putty knife to get rid of the thick stuff. And 10 pairs of rubber gloves... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034844.jpg The goods http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034850.jpg Before http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034865.jpg One clean, one still dirty (will paint with high temp black) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034881.jpg Yep, a toothbrush! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034885.jpg The aftermath http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034890.jpg Much cleaner http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252034897.jpg Not perfect, but much much better... |

Beautiful cleanup. If you have access to a sandblaster, it could do a good job on the heat exchangers and lower valve covers.
|
Wow, night and day difference. Keep those glory shots coming! How slippery is your driveway?
|
Driveway got sprayed after the engine with cleaner. Good as new!
Was putting the engine back together, and one of the tensioner collars I got from a fellow pelican actually cracked when I installed it...! So, just ordered a new set from Pelican, and will continue that job when they get here. Its coming along...! |
|
Do you have more pictures of the rebuild like electrical connections and harness. More info on the rebuild of the carburetors any thing more pictures.
PLEASE!!!!!!! |
great job Bill, hope it runs as good as it looks!
|
Got mice?
"I'D BE INTERESTED IN THE MICE IF THEY'RE STILL AVAILABLE, AND FRESH." http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254709297.jpgI have a complete set of chain sprockets and hardware , etc. for sale from a 1970 2.2 that I parted out..... if you are interested. The trailing arms, tensioners, and the 2 flanges sold fast like the rest of this engine. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g3...ersset01_1.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254709610.jpg |
Opps, didn't realize you were so DONE with the engine, forget about the mice.....looks fantastic...good job.

Nice work thanks for the pictures. Was the carbs pretty easy to rebuild any advise. As I will be doing mine soon.
Thanks Jerry |
good work there Levdeb!! I was wondering... how has your experience been with the berryman chem-dip and carb cleaner??
I just bought a 5 gal pale of it... hope it works as I have herd others say it does... Bob |
Jerry1- The rebuild was pretty easy. I broke a couple of the injector nozzles and had to buy some used ones from the guys here. Very very easy. Decided to delete the circuit as well on both, as I was told they just leak anyway.
911Tweaks- If I had to do it again, I would use one can PER 3 carbs... The first 3 cleaned up really easily, but by the time I did the other side, the dip was pretty dirty, and the parts came out clean of crud, but covered in "old crud"... Really kicks butt though! |
Looking good Bill. Keep the pics coming. Did all this and still had time for Vegas?
|
Got the car in June, so I feel pretty good about my timeline. Putting the engine in on Friday, and hoping it starts up after 15 years of snow and mice. I will get on Herr and find out the correct procedure for firing up and old engine after all that time. I know numerous oil changes are in my future...! :)

The engine is IN!!! Now, I can't remember which lead the starter wire from the front of the car bolts too....

Screw the starter wires, push start it. We're all getting pretty excited!!!!
I can't find a photo to help determine the starter wires. |
